What was the biggest impression made on me at Media Day at the range this year? It was COLD! Air temperature was around 35-40 degrees, but the 15-20 MPH wind made for an extremely chilly experience!
Springfield debuted their new XDs in 9mm, which is something I will definitely be trying to get my hands on soon. I’ve been waiting for the 9mm version ever since they came out with the 45 version last year. It’s a great size for discreet belt carry and it shot really nicely for a gun that small.
Another very interesting product I was able to demo was the new Armscor 22 TCM 1911. It looked to be a 9mm case necked down to a 22 caliber bullet, and they are advertising 2100 FPS out of a 5” barrel. It had almost zero recoil and muzzle flip, and without a doubt packs a pretty good punch downrange. The gun that I shot was a double-stack, Para-Ord style frame, so it had capacity to go along with it. Hopefully I can secure one for testing a little later in the year.
Of course the highlight of the day had to be shooting the Kriss Super V SMG. That thing cycles wicked fast and very controllable with their recoil system.
Other than that, I didn’t see a whole bunch of new products out on the range, though I did run into a bunch of friends that I haven’t seen for the past few months since the shooting season ended. Hopefully I’ll be able to spot some more stuff on the show floor today!
