Just Who Is This B.J. Norris?

Who am I? That’s an interesting question…

I started shooting competitively in USPSA in la_D3E0234te 2000, at age 11 while my family lived in the Shenandoah Valley of western Virginia (Not to be confused WEST Virginia…) The VA-MD Section was a wonderful place for a developing shooter to be in that time period. Not only were there nationally known shooters like Phil Strader and Todd Jarrett shooting at the local clubs, we had a slew of other Master and GrandMaster  level shooters to watch and learn from. For most of the time that I lived in the area, I shot Production division, switching to Open only about a year before my family moved to East Texas in early 2005.

2005 was the year I really got serious about shooting. That year consisted of hard practice, traveling to almost every USPSA Area Championship, the IPSC World Shoot in Ecuador and my first Steel Challenge. Since then, it’s been an incredible ride that I wouldn’t trade for anything. I did make one departure from the shooting sports  in 2009 when I decided to enlist in the U.S. Army. Unfortunately, I found out about a previously unknown problem with my lower back during Basic Training, and was discharged in early 2010. Fortunately,  it’s not a particularly serious problem, and my main limitation is just not being able to put on a 50 lb ruck and march for 10 miles…

In the past couple years, I’ve been very blessed to receive some great support from my sponsors, friends and family that have allowed me to focus on competitive shooting and accomplish some major goals. My current achievements include:

  • Steel Challenge World Champion, 2011
  • Steel Challenge SteelMaster Division World Champion 2012, 2011, 2009, 2008
  • Steel Challenge Rimfire Optics Division, World Champion 2011, 2009, 2007
  • Steel Challenge Iron Sight Pistol Division World Champion, 2012
  • Steel Challenge Production Division World Champion, 2010
  • Steel Challenge Junior World Champion, 2006
  • Ruger Rimfire Series Overall World Champion, 2011
  • FNH-USA3 Gun Championship, Tactical-Limited Division Champion
  • USPSA Junior National Champion, Open Division, 2007, 2006, 2005
  • USPSA Junior National Champion, Production Division, 2003
  • Steel Challenge SteelMaster Division National Champion 2012, 2011, 2009
  • Steel Challenge Iron Sight Pistol Division National Champion, 2012, 2009
  • Steel Challenge Rimfire Optics Division National Champion, 2008, 2011

Shooting competitively and the shooting industry as a whole are a huge part of who I am as a person and have both definitely surpassed the ‘hobby’ and ‘career’ point and have become a true life passion. That being said though, they certainly don’t encompass everything about me. For a few cool, non-shooting related facts, check out the “Things I Like” page!
